Petersburg Observer & Menard County Review

Charges against Adam Power upgraded

Petersburg resident Adam Power, 29, was arrested by the Athens Police Department on March 22, 2023 and charged with eight counts of possession of child pornography, which are felonies.

Power was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on April 4, but Menard County State’s Attorney Gabe Grosboll said he waived the hearing, and Judge Michael Atterberry ruled that there was probable cause for him to be tried for the alleged offenses, with the case set for the May jury calendar.

Grosboll added that he upgraded the charges against Power from Class 3 to Class 2 felonies, which carry a potential lengthier prison sentence upon conviction. A Class 3 felony carries a potential sentence of 2 to 5 years, while a sentence of 3 to 7 years is possible for a Class 2 felony, and the sentence for multiple charges must be served consecutively. Penalties for both classes are also probational.

Grosboll said Power has hired Dan Fultz as his attorney. Power’s bond remains at $300,000, and he is still being held in the Menard County Jail.

The public is reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
